YES FOR BLOCKCHAIN BUT NO FOR BITCOIN!
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), a special division of US military is committing towards development of a fair understanding of permission less blockchain systems but looks like it’s a big no for Bitcoin.
A request for information was sent out by the US Department of Defense Agency to get insights on permission less distributed consensus protocols, dealing specifically with those aspect which aren’t adequately explored yet.
The reason why we mentioned that there won’t be much for bitcoins as DARPA is seeking to understand and get information on how permissionless blockchains can function in the absence of monetary incentives and are looking for alternative methods that can be used for the same.
This is not the first time, this US Research Agency has shown interest in leveraging blockchain technology for their research.
As reported by CNN in one of the recents posts:
“Despite being a military agency which maintains a high level of secrecy in certain projects, this is not the first time that DARPA has publicly demonstrated interest in blockchain technology. Two years ago, CCN reported that DARPA was working on a communications platform where messages would be transferred on a secure decentralized protocol.”
DAPRA, then affirmed that the messaging platform would only be used in conversations with troops like sending and receiving communication regarding troop movements, which shall come in great use in situations where the environment is denying communication.
The DoD agency were quoted saying that
“such a blockchain messaging system would need to be resilient during cyber-attacks, possess self-destruct features for messages, and be capable of providing deniability or repudiation, if and when necessary.”
